Leading glass artist, Ann Robinson inspiring career spans over 20 years; honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 by the America Glass Art Society and recognised as a Laureate in 2004 by the New Zealand Arts Foundation. Finding inspiration for her works in nature, Robinson sees each of her vessels as a light-filled canvas on which to develop her own language, a personal poetry of images.

Dan Chappell in Defining Light and Space, Art News New Zealand, Spring 2008, writes "Living on Auckland west coast at Karekare, Robinson has long been inspired by the surrounding bush and her garden, carving patterns from nature into her vessels flax, nikau, cactus... the more you see of Robinson work, with its soft curved vessels and rhythmic patterns of nature, the more you realise hers is more a liberation of light a release of the inner warmth and pulse from the very core of her creations."

Asked to speak about her works, Ann talks of the expressive qualities of glass. "Light falls on the glass form, filling it, transforming. That is the mystery. Life and love, light and soul. The art is in the plaiting of the four together. Intoxicating material, reflecting the changing lights of sun and moon, rain and mist, even the dark night. Speaking in moods, a thing to live with. Changing, always changing. Colour that will not fade, a permanent value that will outlive us all."

Ann Robinson works feature in prominent private and public collections including the Corning Museum (USA), Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), The National Gallery of Victoria (Australia), Stradtmuseum (Germany), Auckland Museum and Te Papa, Museum of New Zealand.
