Scott
Turning to photography from music in 1987, Kieran Scott has travelled and photographed throughout Europe, Middle East, Asia and the United States. His images have been commissioned by and published in numerous national and international magazines.
He has won the 2000 World Cookbook Awards at Perigueux for Savour the Pacific. Twice MPA Photographer of the year and Cathy Pacific NZ travel Photography Winner.
Speaking of his latest glacial images Kieran articulates:
"My work as an Editorial photographer is about narrative. I guess you might say I tell stories with my pictures - and every story I have to tell will be different, it has to be - just as you never experience the same thing in exactly the same way over and over again my pictures are never the same.
I am only really interested in content - technique should be invisible. It's what's inside the frame that matters most to me and by virtue of our ever-changing world and how we experience it - my pictures should reflect that."
Of another work titled First Memory Memorial:
"First Memory Memorial is a reference to my Dad (who died a year or so ago). He bought me my first guitar from Beggs Music store in Oamaru in 1975 and I still have it. He was a tough south island sheep shearer who loved the outdoors and Rugby - for him to call in to that fancy music store and buy me that guitar was an amazing thing to do - I was rubbish at sports!! - I will never forget the day I got it and his big hands taking it out of the box and giving it to me with a sparkle in his eye. That piece of guitar string has played out a lot of music and keeping a little bit is like a little memorial."
