Louise
Sweet
Louise Sweet started photographing in her mid 20s, primarily in black and white. She attended the Melbourne School of Black and White Photography in the late 1980s and later worked in a design studio as a photographers assistant. She returned to Auckland in 1992 as a commercial photographer after which she traveled extensively. She processes and prints all her black and white work and has only recently begun exploring colour.
"I use imagery as introspective communication. I attempt to reproduce the emotional response I feel when 'seeing' so that it remains embedded within the work.
I choose images to record myself because they speak implicitly. When hung I hope they may enkindle a response in others.
Unencumbered by language, images speak from the heart of one to another, without barriers they embody the essence of humanity." - Louise Sweet, 2009
